With innovation and outstanding customer service at its core, Virgin Atlantic was established in 1984 by businessman Sir Richard Branson with the goal of ensuring that everyone can take on the world. For the sixth year in a row, Virgin Atlantic was selected by APEX as the only Global Five Star Airline in the United Kingdom in 2022. With its global headquarters in London, it employs more than 7,500 people and transports passengers to 31 locations on four continents. Virgin Atlantic recently added new routes to Tampa, Florida, and Austin, Texas, as part of its ongoing US expansion.
Virgin Atlantic operates a premier transatlantic network with connections to more than 200 cities worldwide, along with shareholder and joint venture partner Delta Air Lines. An expanded joint venture between Air France-KLM, Delta Air Lines, and Virgin Atlantic was launched in February 2020. It offers a wide range of routes, practical flight schedules, affordable prices, and reciprocal frequent flyer benefits, including the ability to accrue and use miles on all participating airlines. Virgin Atlantic became the first and only airline from the United Kingdom to join SkyTeam in March 2023, enhancing the alliance’s transatlantic network and services to and from Manchester Airport and Heathrow.
For more than 15 years, Virgin Atlantic has been at the forefront of sustainability leadership, with a goal of using 10% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by 2030 and going net zero by 2050. The airline has decreased its absolute carbon emissions by 35% over the past ten years and operates one of the newest and most fuel-efficient fleets in the skies. Virgin Atlantic will add the first of 16 A330-900neos to its fleet in October 2022 as it continues its transition to 100% next-generation aircraft by 2027. The first 100% SAF flight across the Atlantic will be delivered by Virgin Atlantic at the helm of an industry consortium in late 2023, proving that 100% SAF can be used safely as a drop in fuel in existing infrastructure, engines, and airframes.
